How does the model adjust at the end of each segment?

Is the idea for the buckets that every 5 years you take the next bucket's assets and invest in SPIA/CD's/Bonds/etc.? So you are buying a new SPIA every 5 years to generate the necessary income or "floor?"

  That is definitely one approach that is popular. Period certain SPIAs provide a convenient way to guarantee income. However, any other “safe” vehicle may be used.
